IBM research says that about 40% of the workforce will need to re-skill in the next three years, due to the impact of the wave of artificial intelligence (AI).
Innovative AI models like ChatGPT can do technical things like writing and coding so well that many fear they will replace their jobs. New IBM research shows that AI technology should not be feared, but should be leveraged.
The report from IBM analyzes how the emergence of artificial intelligence is affecting business models, especially how to leverage AI to perform business operations, and how it affects businesses. role at work.
To answer these questions, IBM drew on data from a survey of 3,000 executives in 28 countries and a survey of 21,000 workers in 22 countries. The results show that AI will definitely make a difference in the workforce and businesses, but not for the workforce.
The executives surveyed estimate 40% of their workforce will have to re-skill in the next three years due to AI implementation issues. According to World Bank statistics, that number is equivalent to 1.4 billion of the 3.4 billion people in the global workforce.
However, 87% of those executives expect innovative AI to augment rather than replace the workforce.
According to IBM research, people who have re-skilled to adapt to job changes caused by AI technology have experienced 15% more revenue growth on average. Those who focus on AI say their earnings growth is 36% higher than their peers.
The report says AI will not replace people, but people who use AI will replace those who don’t.
The report also says the new model shifts traditionally prioritized skills such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) proficiency – the most important skill in 2016 – to the least priority. by 2023. The reason is that tools like ChatGPT allow workers to do more with less knowledge.
Besides AI, businesses also pay more attention to people skills such as team management, the ability to work effectively in a team environment, the ability to communicate effectively, and the willingness to adapt to change, all are moving to the most important skills required of the workforce by 2023.
