5 new features expected on the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro

Apple is apparently looking to bridge the gap between the standard models in its iPhone series and the premium models, according to recent rumors. Here are the 5 new features expected on the 15 and 15 Pro models.

Rumors suggest that several features that currently remain exclusive to the Pro line iPhones will be extended to all models. Even if some functions will remain exclusive to the Pro models.

Dynamic Island

Currently present on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, the new pill-shaped cutout is expected to land on all models in the 15 range. This Dynamic Island is a combination of hardware and software integration that allows displaying of different system alerts, notifications, and others.

New “state-of-the-art” image sensor

Apple will use Sony’s next “state-of-the-art” image sensor, which produces richer, brighter, and sharper images. The new sensor uses a solid-state architecture that places photodiodes and transistors in separate layers, allowing for more photodiodes. For example, the new sensor could be useful for portrait shots and prevent the subject from appearing washed out, even in strong backlight. Although we expect the improvements made by the sensor to be applied to the whole range, Apple could ultimately decide to keep this function for the models of the Pro range.

USB-C

All iPhones since the iPhone 5 have a Lightning port, whether they are high-end or standard models of a particular line of iPhones. With the iPhone 15, that will change, as a law recently passed in the EU will force Apple to switch the iPhone, along with its other products, to USB-C. The new law will impact all models in the iPhone series, including the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, but there is a catch.

If all models in the lineup were to feature USB-C, only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which might be called ‘ iPhone 15 Ultra ‘, will benefit from faster transfer speeds. While the Pro models in the line will have a USB-C port with at least one USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 port, the standard models in the line will only have USB 2.0 speeds like the existing Lightning port.

Appareil photo 48MP

Both iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature a new main camera lens that can take photos in 48MP quality. With a 48 MP sensor, the iPhone 14 Pro series takes images with more detail than photos taken with the standard 12 MP resolution. According to a report, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will come with this same advanced high-end camera feature.

Camera features and hardware capabilities have generally been one of the biggest differentiators between the premium and standard models in the iPhone lineup. In order to accentuate the distinction between the two models, we expect the iPhone 15 Pro to feature a periscopic lens, which should not be the case for the entire range.

A faster and more efficient 5G modem

All models in the upcoming iPhone 15 series are expected to feature Qualcomm’s X70 modem chip, which will deliver several improvements to the 5G experience on iPhone. Compared to the X65 chip in the iPhone 14 series, the X70 uses AI capabilities for faster average speeds, better coverage, better signal quality, lower latency, and improved power by up to 60%.
