Intel just introduced a new desktop CPU called the Core i9-13900KS that can reach speeds of up to 6 GHz without overclocking, making it the fastest PC processor available.
According to Engadget , to do this, Intel offers its CPU the Thermal Velocity Boost feature that allows it to run faster when it’s cool enough. The Intel Core i9-13900KS is an upgraded version of the Core i9-13900K that Intel released last fall.
The main difference between the two processors is that the Core i9-13900K reaches a maximum speed of 5.8GHz and a base voltage of 125W, which is lower than the 150W of the Core i9-13900KS. However, the Core i9-13900KS has the same number of cores (24), cache capacity (36 MB) and PCIe lanes (20) as the Core i9-13900K. In addition, the new processor is compatible with Z790 and Z690 motherboards.
Thermal Velocity Boost is a feature found in 11th Gen Intel Core CPUs and later that allows them to run faster when cool. It does this by increasing the clock frequency by 100 MHz when the temperature is below 70 degrees Celsius. However, users need a good cooling solution for maximum efficiency.
The Intel Core i9-13900KS was introduced just before the Ryzen 9 7950X3D is expected to be by AMD released next month. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D can reach 5.7 GHz, delivering 144 MB thanks to 3D V-Cache technology that allows more cache to be added to the CPU. It is known that the retail price of Intel Core i9-13900KS is 699 USD and is now available in stores.
