iPhone users have been waiting for this for months, even years. Apple has just filed a patent to pass FaceID and the dynamic island under the screen.
A new patent granted to Apple seems to describe a new approach to the famous Face ID block under the screen. The latter would allow the Cupertino company to get closer to an edge-to-edge screen. The dream of former iconic designer Jony Ive. The document more accurately describes the evolution of the dynamic island that appeared on the latest iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models.
One step forward
The document highlights the evolution of the dynamic island but then goes further. First, the patent describes a wide range of sensors that could be integrated into the screen, including gestures performed without touching the screen.
Second, the position of the Dynamic Island could be varied, using a series of small transparent windows whose apparent size and position can be effectively moved around the screen, turning different pixels on and off. This will make it possible to have a total screen when there is no use having the front sensors.
Apple already holds a number of patents for Face ID and under-display Touch ID. But until Apple implements them, it may still take months or even years.
