No sooner has the picture-in-picture mode, literally picture-in-picture, begun its deployment on iOS than WhatsApp brings another good news to followers of the apple brand. Indeed, the application now seeks to improve the quality of shared media files.

For those who still don’t know, the current messaging system does not allow you to show your photos in their best light. For what? Quite simply because WhatsApp strongly compresses all the photos that pass through its platform. The idea is to reduce sending times and data consumption.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp plans to introduce a new button in the image editor, which opens whenever you want to send a photo through the app. This should be soberly titled “HD” and will allow you to choose the definition of the image. Thus, users will be able to opt for a better-quality photo by selecting the HD option. Obviously, it will always be possible to transmit your files with the standard quality offered by WhatsApp. Note that the application will always keep the standard default settings. If you want to send your files in high definition, you will need to select HD quality for each image.

By the way, it should be mentioned that this update does not mean that the photos will no longer be compressed. Also according to WABetaInfo, the quality of the images will not be quite equal to their original definition. Nevertheless, the developers of WhatsApp would have achieved a great feat by offering compression that retains 90% of the basic quality of the snapshots.

Finally, note that the feature is currently under development. It is therefore difficult to estimate a deployment date for the update, but the fact that we are already hearing about it is a good sign.
