The latest study shows that within the next 10 years, robots are expected to take over household chores, accounting for nearly 40% of the housework.
According to TechTimes, a report from CAN Lifestyle shows a growing automation trend, which will continue over the next decade as more robots will be appointed to replace domestic helpers. Speaking of housework, artificial intelligence (AI) experts find the presence of robots to be most felt during grocery shopping. Meanwhile, taking care of the elderly or young children will be the least expressed.
UK and Japanese researchers from Oxford University and Ochanomizu University share that robots will have a big impact on “unpaid housework”. They argue that household chores will be easier thanks to robots, but this will lead to a great dependence on machines in the coming years.
In an experiment involving 36 British AI experts and 29 Japanese AI experts, they were asked about forecasts for automation. Based on research, British male professionals are more positive about robots taking on household chores. Meanwhile, Japanese female experts have opposite views.
Many people think that one day, robots and AI will replace humans. In the past, vehicles were driven by humans, but now cars like Tesla can drive themselves thanks to its self-driving feature.
With the assistive technology that robots bring to humans, the burden of completing common tasks will be reduced, but this does not mean robots will replace humans. Instead, it will only accompany people to reduce the burden of daily work.
But if robots really do most of the housework in the next 10 years, humans can focus more on other important things. As such, they can soon begin to leave the mundane activities of the workplace while becoming more efficient at the tasks that require the most attention and effort.
