OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has just announced a number of important changes, including the launch of ChatGPT APIs for developers as well as the Whisper voice transcription model.
According to Engadget , OpenAI also changed its terms of service to allow developers to opt out of the use of their data to improve and add a 30-day data retention policy.
The new ChatGPT API will use the same AI model (“gpt-3.5-turbo”) as the universal chatbot, allowing developers to add native or custom versions of ChatGPT to their apps. The tool is now available on Snap’s My AI or the new virtual tutor for the online learning tool Quizlet. This API will not be limited to chatbot capabilities like ChatGPT but can provide a “no chat” experience from the AI brain.
The ChatGPT API costs $0.002 per 1,000 tokens (about 750 words). Additionally, it offers a dedicated capacity option for developers with large budgets who want to use more tokens than the standard API allows. Developers need to join ChatGPT Plus – a $20/month consumer service plan that OpenAI launched in February.
Meanwhile, the Whisper API is a hosted version of the open-source Whisper speech-to-text model that OpenAI launched in September.
