CEO Elon Musk has just posted a tweet saying that Twitter has begun to limit the number of tweets that users can see each day.
According to Engadget, Musk said the company would limit unverified accounts from reading 600 posts daily and new versions to only reading 300 tweets daily. Meanwhile, verified accounts can read 6,000 posts per day. That means, without paying for Twitter Blue, users will only read a few hundred tweets before encountering the “read limit exceeded” error
Less than two hours after posting the information, Musk further updated in his tweet that Twitter will soon increase the limit to 8,000 for verified accounts and 800 for unverified accounts.
Mr. Musk claimed the “temporary” limits were introduced to address issues of extreme data collection and manipulation of the system. “Hundreds of organizations have collected Twitter data so powerfully that it affects the real user experience,” the billionaire tweeted.
He later claimed that “most AI (artificial intelligence) companies” use Twitter to train their samples. “It’s frustrating to have to bring a large number of servers online in an emergency just to make it easier for some AI startups to exploit them,” he added.
At the moment, Mr. Musk did not specify whether viewing the ad will count towards the user’s view limit. Either way, these restrictions will severely limit Twitter’s usability, making it difficult, for example, to verify if a screenshot of a tweet is authentic.
