The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has introduced a new automated system, called Traffictech-GH, to effectively enforce road traffic rules. By utilizing cameras and sensors, the police can now identify drivers who disregard traffic regulations.
Once a driver is found guilty of a violation, such as running a red light, they will receive an SMS notification informing them of their offense and the corresponding fine.
There will be a designated timeframe for drivers to pay their fines, and failure to do so will result in an arrest warrant being issued. The Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department, COP Francis Ebenezer Doku, emphasizes the significance of Traffictech-GH in upholding social order, building public trust in the police, promoting compliance with laws, and improving the detection of road traffic offenses.
