According to CNBC, the Korean internet “giant” Naver has just launched the chatbot, CLOVA X, officially joining the race of artificial intelligence (AI).

Naver says the HyperCLOVA X large language model (LLM) will improve the search, marketing, and shopping experience for advertisers and users alike. In addition, HyperCLOVA X also supports the AI search service that generates Cue: and the chatbot CLOVA X.

Naver launches the first version of HyperCLOVA in 2021, it is one of the few LLMs in the world to surpass 100 billion parameters, and also the first model to be trained in Korean.

Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yuwon said that CLOVA X will help users increase work productivity, saving 10 – 50% of the time by summarizing documents, translating languages, and composing emails and blog posts.

The Korean tech giant sees ChatGPT as a formidable competitor and is working hard to catch up with this chatbot. Kim said being fluent in Korean is HyperCLOVA’s advantage, but the company needs to improve the languages. as different as English to compete with other top tools.

Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeo said the company has invested a total of $756.8 million over the past three to four years in AI research and development. Naver wants to find a way to develop AI tools that target non-English speaking countries and regions, like Japan and Southeast Asia. Choi shared that the company is in talks with a global partner about expanding its services and is ready to face new changes created by AI.

However, Dalton Investments senior research analyst James Lim thinks Naver is still a step behind other global players.

Additionally, Naver is collaborating on chip development with Samsung Electronics to aid in AI training. This isn’t just about commercializing the technology, Naver needed an efficient low-cost semiconductor chip to improve the quality of its service, Kim said.
