ChatGPT has just added a new Read Aloud feature that can read its responses. This feature is deployed on the web and mobile (Android and iOS) versions of ChatGPT.
Its new Read Aloud feature OpenAI for ChatGPT can be useful when users are on the go by reading its responses using one of five voice options. This feature is currently available on both the web version of ChatGPT and the ChatGPT app on iOS and Android
Read Aloud supports 37 languages but automatically detects the language of the text it is responding to and is available for GPT-4 and GPT-3.5. It’s an interesting example of what OpenAI can do with its multimodal capabilities (the ability to read and respond across multiple media) announced shortly after competitor Anthropic, added features similarly into their AI models, according to The Verge.
ChatGPT launched its voice chat feature in September 2023. This feature helps users ask the chatbot directly without entering text. The new feature will allow people to ask ChatGPT to read responses out loud, and users can set up the chatbot to always respond verbally.
On the mobile app, users can tap and hold the text to open the Read Aloud player, which can play, pause, or rewind the reading. The web version shows a speaker icon below the text.
