Rumors are circulating in the gaming industry that Microsoft may be developing a new, more affordable version of the Xbox Series X. According to reports by Engadget, this new version will be a white-colored Xbox Series X without a disc drive. Leaked images posted by Exputer and documents collected by The Verge suggest that the design of this new version is almost identical to the current black version, except that it lacks a physical drive. Additionally, the device’s surface will be covered in a “robot white” paint, similar to the Xbox Series S.
If these rumors are true, Microsoft may delay the launch of the Xbox Series X upgrade with a new design. Last month, Exputer also reported that this new version will be launched around June to July this year at a price 50-100 USD lower than the current Xbox Series X. However, it’s not the first time rumors about a white, disc-less Xbox Series X have appeared.
Last year, a major leak reported that Microsoft was developing a drive-less Xbox Series X with a completely new cylindrical design, expected to launch in November 2024 for $500. This device, codenamed Brooklin, is rumored to have many modern features such as Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C port, a 6nm processor, power-saving, and the use of more recycled materials. However, Xbox director Phil Spencer denied some of the information in this leak, stating that the information was based on original plans that may have changed.
The possibility of a cheap, drive-less Xbox Series X has excited the gaming community, but we must wait for official information from Microsoft to confirm or deny these reports.
