A British businessman has filed a £5 million lawsuit against Apple, claiming that the company’s failure to adequately explain how message deletion works across devices led to the end of his marriage. According to reports, private messages he thought he had deleted from his iPhone were inadvertently discovered by his wife on their family’s iMac, causing irreparable damage to their relationship and resulting in a costly divorce.

The plaintiff’s attorney alleges that Apple did not sufficiently disclose that deleting messages on one device does not necessarily delete them from all devices linked to the same Apple ID. The man is seeking to turn this into a class action lawsuit to prompt Apple to improve its notification methods and ensure that deleted messages are permanently removed from all connected devices.

While Apple has yet to offer a public response, this incident serves as a reminder for users to be mindful of their personal information security when using Apple devices, especially across multiple devices linked to the same iCloud account.
