Google will soon introduce a feature for transferring images from Google Photos to iCloud. As reported by PhoneArena, the Data Transfer Initiative (DTI) of Apple and Google has announced an upcoming enhancement in data sharing between the two platforms. This innovation will enable Google Photos users to seamlessly transfer their photos, albums, and videos to iCloud Photos starting next week. The new conversion tool is based on the Data Transfer Project (DTP), an open-source platform enabling data conversion between different online services. Initially, DTP supported transferring data from iCloud Photos to Google Photos, and now the reverse transfer has become feasible.

To execute the transition, users can navigate to Google Takeout, select the desired albums for export, choose Apple iCloud Photos as the import service, and sign in with their Apple ID. Depending on the volume of data, the conversion process may take a few hours to a few days to complete.

Once the migration is finalized, the imported photos and videos will be accessible in the Photos app on the iPhone, arranged within a distinct album named ‘Import from Google’. Some files may not be fully indexed and will be located in a folder of the same name on iCloud Drive.

The Data Transfer Initiative, in collaboration with Apple, Google, and Meta, has been dedicated to furnishing tools that facilitate easy data transfers across diverse platforms. The launch of the Google Photos to iCloud Photos conversion tool is a significant development, offering users greater convenience and flexibility when transitioning between devices and services.
