Rumors surrounding the iPhone SE 4 have sparked discussions about its potential features. Some reports suggested that the device would boast 8 GB of RAM and a chip comparable to the A17 Pro to support Apple Intelligence. However, a recent report seems to dispel these expectations, potentially disappointing many fans.

Initial reports indicated that Apple Intelligence would require significant RAM capacity and Neural Engine capabilities, making this feature exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, both equipped with 8 GB of RAM and an A17 chip. This led some to believe that the iPhone SE 4 would also support Apple Intelligence out of the box. However, leaked code from macOS 15.1 Sequoia Beta casts doubt on this assumption.

In the code snippet uploaded by user @aaplpro, references to 8 upcoming devices with Apple Intelligence support were found, including unique identifiers for each iPhone model. Notably, the upcoming iPhone SE 4 is likely to have the identifier iPhone15,6, a detail not included in the listing. This suggests that the rumored low-cost model launching in 2025 may not feature generative AI capabilities.

The leaked code also revealed identifiers for models supporting Apple Intelligence, such as iPhone 17.1, iPhone 17.2, iPhone 17.3, and iPhone 17.4, indicating enhanced features for the iPhone 16 series. Additionally, the iPhone 17 series, identified as iPhone18,1, iPhone18,2, iPhone18,3, and iPhone18,4, is expected to offer advanced features, with reports suggesting that the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will receive an upgrade to 12 GB of RAM, potentially unlocking more Apple Intelligence features.

Based on the evidence, it’s likely that the iPhone SE 4 will be equipped with 6 GB of RAM instead of the initially rumored 8 GB. While the device may compete with the power of the A18 chip found in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, possessing a strong System on Chip (SoC) with an upgraded Neural Engine might not be sufficient to support Apple’s on-device and cloud-based AI features.
