It has been reported that Apple is currently in discussions to invest in OpenAI, an artificial intelligence company known for creating ChatGPT. Although the exact amount of the investment and other negotiation details have not been disclosed, there are speculations that this funding round could potentially value OpenAI at over $100 billion.
Apple has officially confirmed that ChatGPT integration will be incorporated into Siri with the upcoming releases of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia later this year. Once enabled, Siri will have the capability to directly display responses generated by ChatGPT in response to inquiries and commands. Moreover, ChatGPT will be available as an option for the system-wide Writing Tools feature, allowing users to intuitively generate text and images.
An interesting development is that iPhone, iPad, and Mac users will have access to ChatGPT for free without the need to create an account. However, ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be able to link their accounts to access premium features on Apple devices. It is emphasized that OpenAI will not store ChatGPT requests made by Apple devices, and users’ IP addresses will be obscured to ensure a high level of privacy.
Apple Intelligence features, including ChatGPT integration, have already been made available for testing to developers through the iOS 18.1 beta last month in the US, although specific ChatGPT integration is not yet accessible.
To utilize these features, users must have an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, or a Mac or iPad equipped with an M1 chip or later. Currently, the device must be set to English (and doesn’t work in Europe), but support for other languages will be expanded over the next year.
In addition to Apple’s interest, the report also emphasizes Microsoft’s plans for further investments in OpenAI. This underscores how major tech companies recognize the enormous potential of artificial intelligence, with OpenAI positioned at the forefront of this technological revolution.
The integration of ChatGPT into Siri represents a significant advancement for Apple in the field of artificial intelligence, enhancing the intelligence and utility of its devices for users. This move also signals increased competitiveness against other voice assistants in the market. With Apple and Microsoft intensifying their focus on OpenAI, it is evident that artificial intelligence will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of technology products in the years to come.
