Apple is reportedly developing a second generation of its Vision Pro headset, known as Vision Pro 2, which is anticipated to provide enhanced performance. The expected launch date is at the end of 2025.
According to a report by BGR, a lower-cost version of the Vision Pro may not be available until 2027. In the meantime, Apple appears to be concentrating on upgrading the existing model with the new Vision Pro 2.
Bloomberg technology journalist Mark Gurman has indicated that the Vision Pro 2 will be powered by the M5 chip, replacing the M2 chip found in the current version. This upgrade is expected to significantly improve performance, enabling the headset to manage more complex tasks and deliver a smoother augmented reality (AR) experience.
In terms of design, the Vision Pro 2 is not expected to deviate significantly from its predecessor; Apple’s primary focus seems to be on enhancing performance and software capabilities rather than altering the physical design.
Additionally, Apple has recently released the first beta version of VisionOS 2.2, highlighting an improved Mac Virtual Display feature. This new functionality allows users to experience an ultra-wide screen environment that envelops them.
While Vision Pro has yet to make a significant impact in the market, Apple continues to invest in improving the product and expanding the application ecosystem for this device. The introduction of the Vision Pro 2 with the M5 chip may play a crucial role in drawing more users to the platform and fostering growth in the augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) market.
