Samsung is on the verge of introducing a 27-inch OLED screen featuring a remarkable refresh rate of up to 500 Hz, specifically designed for professional gamers. According to TechSpot, Samsung Display, the company’s dedicated display division, is currently in the final stages of development for this cutting-edge technology.

This monitor will be Samsung’s inaugural 500 Hz refresh rate display operating at a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. Utilizing QD-OLED technology, which combines quantum dots with traditional OLED, the screen promises to deliver vivid images, vibrant color reproduction, and high contrast. The high refresh rate ensures exceptionally smooth visuals for fast-moving images, significantly reducing ghosting and lag—key factors that can provide gamers with a competitive edge.

In 2023, manufacturers like Dell (Alienware) and AU Optronics released the first 500 Hz IPS monitors, but Samsung Display will set a milestone by becoming the first to achieve this refresh rate in an OLED display at 1,440p resolution.

The popularity of OLED screens is rapidly increasing owing to their superior image quality. According to Omdia, the OLED display market is poised to grow at an average rate of 34% annually from 2023 to 2028.

Samsung’s anticipated 27-inch 500 Hz OLED screen is expected to hit the market in the first half of 2025, raising questions about its potential impact on the gaming monitor sector. Only time will tell if this product will significantly advance the market.
