Samsung has confirmed some of its data was stolen as part of a cyber-attack reported over the weekend.
In a statement to Bloomberg, Samsung revealed a security breach that caused “some source code related to the operation of Galaxy devices” to be removed, but customer and employee credentials were not affected.
Although Samsung has not revealed who is behind the attack, the Lapsus$ hacking group from South America has claimed responsibility. The group shared a 190GB torrent file that allegedly includes bootloader source code for all recent Samsung devices, as well as code related to biometric authentication and encryption on the device. for Galaxy phones and tablets.
The Samsung hack comes less than a week after the hacker group said it had obtained about 1 TB of data, including schematics and source code, from chip giant Nvidia. Nvidia later admitted the attack took place on February 23, after which Lapsus$ demanded a ransom paid in cryptocurrency to prevent Nvidia files from being made public.
“At this time, we do not anticipate any impact on business or our customers. We have taken measures to prevent such incidents from occurring again and will continue to serve customers without interruption,” Samsung confirmed in its statement.
