Apple is working to diversify its supply chain for iPhone production as the company plans to deliver the iPhone 14 made in India in about two months from the device’s release date in September.
According to Neowin, Apple’s move comes after a protracted trade war between China and the US, forcing global companies to rethink their manufacturing strategies. More and more companies are looking for alternatives outside of China to fit their assembly lines. China’s “Zero Covid” policy has caused major production centers such as Shanghai and Beijing to blockade many times, making the efforts of companies even more accelerated.
The fact that Apple produces the iPhone 14 in a second country other than China is not too surprising. Previously, well-known analyst Ming-chi Kuo predicted that Apple would ship the next iPhone from both countries almost at the same time.
New iPhones will normally take 6-9 months from the date of launch to be assembled at the Foxconn factory in India. Now, Apple and Foxconn have reduced this number to 2 months. The first iPhone 14s, which will be manufactured from the Foxconn factory in Chennai, India, will be available in the market in late October or early November after they are released in September. As part of the goal of Apple and Foxconn, this period is expected to decrease further.
The aforementioned timeframe is said to be quite ambitious for Apple in India to attract consumers during the Diwali festival, which begins on October 24. iPhones made in India will also be shipped to global markets like iPhones made in China.
