iPad Pro M2 can’t record video in ProRes

This month, Apple introduced a series of new iPads, including the standard iPad and the iPad Pro with the M2 chip. The products eventually reach the users, allowing them to uncover the secrets surrounding the products.

According to GizChina, reports suggest that the new iPad Pro variant with the Apple M2 chip will not bring the ability to record videos in ProRes format, at least not in the native camera app.

ProRes is a theater-grade video format that offers more detail. This gives more flexibility while editing videos. This is one of the best options for video recording on mobile products and has been around since the iPhone 13 Pro series launch in 2021.

ProRes is not provided at default settings but requires the user to enable the camera app via the sub-format menu. ProRes video recording is of high quality; however, this also requires additional storage space. The iPad Pro 2022 models are quite large but still limited, which may be why the company removed this feature.

Notably, this is a limitation only found in the iPad Pro’s native camera app, as users can enable ProRes video recording from another app. So it wouldn’t be surprising if Apple enabled this feature on the camera app in the future. However, Apple has not officially responded to this feature on iPad Pro models with Apple M2 chip.
