All the new features of iOS 16.1

Apple has just made the new version of iOS available to developers. Here’s what’s new.

iOS 16 is barely installed on smartphones, but Apple is already rolling out the new version of iOS 16, iOS 16.1. This update brings a lot of new features:

The economic burden

We were already talking about it at the beginning of the week, but Apple will integrate an “ecological” charging function. The objective of carbon neutrality in 2030 is already now. Thanks to this optimized load, Apple wants to relieve the electricity network during peaks and optimize the load during periods of low consumption (mainly at night). For the moment, this function will be reserved for the United States.

The removal of the Wallet application

With a view to opening up its system a little more to competition, it is now possible to delete the Wallet application. In practice, this will mean that it won’t be possible to use a number of different features, including Apple Pay.

An even more personal lock screen

This new version will make it much easier to personify your screen. The user will therefore have access to a clearer choice with two apparent possibilities:

  • one to customize the lock screen wallpaper and
  • one to customize the home screen wallpaper.

Live Activities

The function presented at WWDC will be effective with version 16.1 of iOS. Apple has shared information on the developer page stating that the ActivityKit API is available. Developers can, therefore, from now on, start integrating live activities into their applications.

Matter

Matter integration continues. Accessing an “Accessories Matter” section in the settings application is now possible. For more information, do not hesitate to consult our article on everything you need to know about Matter, the new connected home standard.

The battery percentage

Apple is expanding the new battery display mode to new models. Thus the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini can now benefit from it.
