AMD quietly stops production of Radeon RX 6650 XT

AMD is said to have discontinued the Radeon RX 6650 XT GPU and will be out of stock by the end of August.

According to Neowin, this information is based on internal reports on the Board Channels forum. This GPU was launched last year as part of the RDNA2 line from AMD. The card has Navi 23 core architecture with 2,048 processing threads and 8 GB GDDR6 memory on a 128-bit interface

But the RX 6650 XT now faces decreasing availability, which can be traced back to the recently launched Radeon RX 7600. The newer GPU offers pretty similar specs, including 2,048 processing threads and 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, but is built on the latest RDNA3 architecture.

In China, AMD’s partners responded to the arrival of the Radeon RX 7600 by sharply reducing prices for the RX 6650 XT, with prices ranging from $424 to as low as $238. Meanwhile, AMD slashed the price of the RX 7600 to $769 in May.

The main advantage of RDNA 3 is access to AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 technology. Although the RX 6600 series will be powered by FSR3 technology, it lacks the Anti-Lag+ feature that helps reduce input lag.

It is known that FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 is a technology introduced by AMD at Gamescom 2023. This technology will be added to at least two PC games in early September, but AMD claims that thousands of games will support the technology. This is in just a few months.

Also at Gamescom 2023, AMD launched the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT GPUs both based on the Navi 32 core architecture. While the RX 7800 Logically, the RX 7700 XT has 54 CUs or 3,456 threads, which is less than 10%.

At the present time, AMD has not officially commented on rumors of discontinuing production of the Radeon RX 6650 XT, but the company’s rapid price reduction and supply situation show that AMD may soon end this product. to focus on the newer RDNA 3 models.
