Apple abandoned efforts to invest in OpenAI

Apple’s unexpected withdrawal from investment negotiations with OpenAI has created new opportunities for other potential investors, particularly Microsoft and NVIDIA. Previously, Apple and OpenAI were in talks to integrate the ChatGPT AI chatbot into Siri and iOS 18. However, Apple’s abrupt decision to pull out just before OpenAI’s anticipated 6.5 billion USD funding round has left the company seeking additional investors.

Microsoft, which is already the largest shareholder in OpenAI with a 49% stake, may now consider increasing its investment to strengthen its position in the AI development race. Furthermore, Thrive Capital is reportedly contemplating an investment of over $1 billion in OpenAI to help bridge the funding gap.

Despite the success of ChatGPT, which generated 3.7 billion USD in revenue this year, OpenAI is still facing significant losses. This funding round is crucial for the company’s survival and future development of AI technologies. While Apple’s withdrawal may pose challenges, strong support from Microsoft and other potential investors offers hope for OpenAI to overcome these obstacles.

The competition to invest in OpenAI highlights the immense potential of artificial intelligence. Despite Apple’s departure from the funding round, the future of OpenAI and ChatGPT promises to be filled with new and interesting developments.
