Apple confirms that closing background apps can drain your iPhone’s battery

Apple has recently released a support document that clarifies the common misconception among iPhone users that closing background apps can save battery life. According to Apple, closing background apps can even drain the battery in some cases and reduce the phone’s speed.

Many users have the habit of swiping to close the Messages app right after opening it to read or send a message, thinking it will help save battery life. However, Apple recommends closing an app only if it becomes “unresponsive or frozen.” Otherwise, there is no reason to close and reopen the app within a few minutes.

IOS and the chips on Apple devices can manage background tasks incredibly well. The app is almost frozen but remains ready to load right where the user left off when switching to another app. On the other hand, if a user closes an app and reopens it, the phone will reload the app from scratch, which can consume more battery in the long run.

Therefore, it is recommended that users follow some other battery-saving tips, such as updating the software, using the brightness adjustment feature to reduce screen brightness, leaving the iPhone in Wi-Fi mode, and turning on low power mode. These tips can help extend the iPhone’s battery life without compromising its performance.
