Apple develops USB-C EarPods for iPhone 15

Apple is said to be developing EarPods with a USB-C cable, in preparation for the arrival of the upcoming iPhone 15 model.

According to AppleInsider, this move comes in the context that Apple is expected to adopt a USB-C port for the iPhone 15 after the European Union adopts a new regulation on the USB-C general charging standard in October 2022. This makes the current EarPods Lightning incompatible with the upcoming iPhone

Now, the latest report from the ShrimpApplePro Twitter account says that the USB-C EarPods have begun mass production. The product is part of the Made for iPhone (MFi) certification program, where Apple approves accessories, sells certain parts, and provides chips to companies for authentication. It’s Apple’s way of ensuring that the accessories that connect to the iPhone are up to quality standards.

Apple still sells wired EarPods with a Lightning port despite the huge success of wireless AirPods. Wired EarPods are cheaper and don’t require charging. Its USB-C version will allow users to connect headphones directly to a USB-C iPhone without an adapter.

Previously, there were rumors that only the iPhone 15 Pro models were capable of high-speed data transfer via the USB-C port
