Apple discontinued production of the MacBook Air M1

Apple recently said goodbye to the MacBook which is considered the most important in recent times for the company, the MacBook Air M1.

Launched in the fall of 2020, the Apple MacBook Air M1 is nearly 3 years old, so it’s not surprising that the product has reached the end of production. The product uses an old chassis and quite an old chip, no longer suitable to compete with products in the 999 USD price segment

The MacBook Air M1 launched a few months after the M1 chip was announced at the Developers CONFERENCE WWDC 2020. The M1 chip is the beginning of Apple’s two-year transition from Intel to self-produced Apple Silicon.

With the MacBook Air M1, the focus is on the M1 chip itself, which is similar to the 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini launched at the same time. All three retain the same chassis used during the Intel era, in the case of the MacBook Air M1 the design used since 2018. However, design continuity has allowed Apple to highlight the differences that the M1 makes, especially compared to previous dual-core Intel chips.

Not only is it the perfect tool to build Apple Silicon’s reputation, but the MacBook Air M1 also impresses with its battery life, which is why the product is still being sold many years later. Previously, the MacBook Air was updated with a new Intel chip every year to replace the previous version. But with the MacBook Air M1, Apple can continue to sell the old model by reducing the price. The MacBook Air M1 was so good that it disadvantaged the MacBook Air M2 for a while. For many people, used products are a much more budget-friendly choice. After the MacBook Air M2 dropped to $1,099, the MacBook Air M1 even dropped to a very low $750.

Although the MacBook Air M1 has been discontinued, consumers can still purchase the product at third-party retail stores
