Apple has introduced new hearing health-related features for the AirPods Pro 2 through a software update. One of these features is a “clinical grade” hearing aid mode aimed at assisting individuals with hearing loss. Additionally, a default hearing protection mode offers passive noise cancellation in noisy environments, safeguarding the user’s hearing from excessively loud sounds.
The new hearing protection mode automatically activates passive noise cancellation to reduce the impact of extreme ambient noise in particularly noisy environments. This enhances the user’s listening experience without the need for active noise cancellation.
The standout innovation is the addition of a “clinical grade” hearing aid mode that enables AirPods Pro 2 to function as real hearing aids, helping to enhance listening quality for individuals with hearing loss.
To access the hearing aid mode, users can take a clinically validated hearing test using their AirPods and iPhone. This test takes less than five minutes, and the results are securely stored in the Health app. If the test detects hearing loss, the hearing aid mode will be enabled.
This mode not only improves overall listening but also allows for the application of a customized hearing profile, making it easier for users to hear ambient sounds even when listening to music or podcasts.
