Apple is about to add AI features to Safari on iPhone

Apple is reportedly planning to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into its upcoming iOS 18 release. According to sources, the Safari browser on iPhone will also receive an AI upgrade soon. Apple is looking to improve the user interface of the Safari browser by adding new tools to block unwanted content. One of these tools is Smart Search, integrated with AI, which summarizes the content on any currently displayed website. Safari’s AI tool is likely to revolve around Ajax, a large language model developed by Apple, that can read an entire website’s text and filter out key points to provide a summary of the content transmitted.

Another tool related to website content deletion appears, allowing Safari users to remove certain parts of the website they are viewing, such as text, images, or advertising banners. The new AI feature remembers these settings and continues to delete selected sections even if the user closes the browser or leaves the default website as is. The edited sections display a replacement notice or table to remind users that the website content being viewed has been edited, but users have the right to return the website to its original state to monitor the content.

The AI “innovation” is expected to help Safari as well as many other applications, as it will give them the ability to recognize images, similar to the Visual Look Up (VLU) feature available on the Photos application. VLU currently allows users to look up and identify information through photos of pets, trees, or popular locations around the world. If the leaks are accurate, a more advanced version of VLU will come to iPhones in 2025. The new feature will add support for identifying the subject’s name and sharing with users information about where it can be found, as well as the product’s selling price. After being available on Safari shortly, VLU is expected to appear in many other applications on iOS.

Apple is set to introduce iOS 18 at the WWDC 2024 event for developers on June 10th. Expected to be released in September, the new operating system will likely feature several AI applications that will enhance the user experience.
