Apple is accused of monopolistic behavior in Russia

Apple has just been accused by the Russian Federal Antitrust Service (FAS) of monopoly activities in the iOS 12 version.

According to Neowin, FAS at Kaspersky Lab is investigating complaints about Apple restricting access to certain developer APIs and archiving documents that were not clear when iOS 12 (with screen time) was released in 2018.

This resulted in many apps, like Kaspersky’s child control app, losing critical functionality, while Apple’s Screen Time app continued to get iOS features not available to party developers. Tuesday.

After an investigation by FAS, the agency found that Apple had abused its market position. A statement from the FAS said: “The developer company documents contain ambiguous requirements, as well as conditions under which Apple can reject third-party applications. Three from the App Store, even if all company requirements are met. According to an in-depth investigation of iOS Documentation and capabilities of iOS technology and applications, as well as evaluating Apple’s actions, we conclude that Apple has abused its dominant position in the application distribution market. iOS Mobile “.

The FAS issued an adjustment order, which required Apple to remove the rules that would allow it to reject apps for any reason, even if they meet all of the requirements. Furthermore, they have also ordered Apple to ensure that the company’s own apps don’t take priority over third-party apps, and that developers can continue to create kid-control apps and distribute them in the App Store without Apple blocking critical functionality.

Apple has a deadline until November 30, 2020 to comply with the order. The company will also have to notify FAS Russia of the changes it made within 5 days of implementation.
