Apple is reportedly exploring the development of personal robots to maintain its dominance in the market and create new revenue sources. The company’s robotics projects are still in the early stages, but according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is researching a mobile robot that can follow users around their homes and has developed a screen-moving robot. The goal is to create a robot that can mimic head movements and lock onto the target of a person in a group, possibly for a better video-calling experience. Apple’s home devices team is responsible for the development, and at least one engineer who worked on the canceled electric vehicle project has moved to this robotics team.
However, executives at Apple are concerned about whether people are willing to pay high amounts of money for robots that they do not necessarily need to use. Therefore, the company has not yet decided whether to move forward with these projects. Previously, Apple planned to sell its electric vehicle for $100,000, but the project was abandoned.
Currently, Apple is focusing on the Vision Pro and new products for the home, including a home hub with an iPad-like screen. The company can still scrap these projects and invest in other types of products if they can bring in larger amounts of revenue in the future.
