According to a report by GizChina, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman stated that Apple has been trailing behind Google in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) for at least 2-3 years. This observation comes from Google’s introduction of advanced AI features on their new Pixel 9 phone line, highlighting Apple’s comparative lag in AI readiness for the upcoming iPhone 16.
Google has integrated its advanced Gemini AI system deeply into Android and Pixel phones, delivering superior features compared to iOS’s Siri assistant. With Gemini AI, Google Assistant’s capabilities in understanding natural language and performing tasks have been significantly enhanced. In contrast, although Apple introduced the majestic Apple Intelligence at the recent developers conference – WWDC, it is not yet complete and may not be ready for release with the iPhone 16. Furthermore, Apple Intelligence currently supports only a few regions and languages, whereas Gemini AI offers multilingual support and global availability.
In addition, Google’s development of a new generation self-developed chip expected to be equipped on Pixel 10 next year further solidifies its advantage in AI performance, indicating that Google is poised to outpace its competitors.
While Apple excels in hardware, it has yet to leverage this advantage fully in the AI sphere. To bridge the gap with Google, the Cupertino giant must increase its investment in AI research and development and integrate AI more deeply into its products and services. Given the increasing significance of AI in the technology industry, Apple faces a considerable challenge in catching up with Google’s ambitious advancements with Gemini AI. Whether Apple can close this gap and reestablish its position in this competitive race remains a question that will unfold over the next few years.
