Apple may increase RAM and internal memory for iPhone 16

According to recent reports, Apple has been known to equip its iPhones with limited RAM and internal memory. However, with the launch of the iPhone 16, things may change for the better. In late December, a company reported that the iPhone 16 would likely have the same amount of RAM as the existing models, which is 6 GB for the base models and 8 GB for the Pro models.

Despite some experts’ concerns that phones with onboard AI may require up to 20 GB of RAM to perform reliably and create images, the iPhone 16 is expected to have more RAM to meet the needs of AI on the device. A report from a Korean research company shared by account @Tech_Reve on X shows that the new phone could have more internal memory, resulting in an increased storage capacity starting at 256 GB.

AI models rely on data generated by various components of the device, such as swipes, cameras, and sensors, so more memory is needed to provide more data for them. The combination of increases in both RAM and internal storage could be standard across Apple’s entire upcoming lineup, with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage.

However, compared to key competitors such as Samsung, which increased the base RAM from 8GB to 12GB on the Galaxy S24 Ultra this year, and the Pixel 8 Pro, which has more starting RAM than the Pixel 7 Pro, Apple’s offering may still be less impressive.

It’s important to keep in mind that the AI features of the Galaxy S24 and Pixel 8 are powered in the cloud. If Apple chooses this route, the iPhone 16 may not require much RAM or internal storage. Recent reports suggest that Apple is in talks with OpenAI, Google, and Baidu to bring AI features to the iPhone 16. The company believes that its large language model needs more improvement, which is why it is willing to rely on other companies for support.
