Apple registers a new trademark for AR/VR devices

Apple continues to prepare for the arrival of its future AR/VR (augmented reality/virtual reality) devices by adding the trademark “Reality” in some territories.

According to AppleInsider , in May, Apple was reported to have filed a trademark application for “realityOS”, which is the operating system for AR/VR devices that the company has long developed. The new trademark registration shows that Apple doesn’t seem to have ended its efforts to secure as many trademarks for future devices as possible.

Specifically, a series of Apple-related records were found in several countries, including the US, EU, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica and Uruguay. All apply to the terms “Reality One”, “Reality Pro” and “Reality Processor”.

While the filings discovered by Bloomberg show they are not registered by Apple, the filings follow the usual pattern for Apple trademark applications for upcoming products.

The records were registered by Immersive Health Solutions LLC – a company incorporated in February and registered by the Corporation Trust Co. Corporation Trust Co is a company used by firms to keep secrets and keep away from trademark filings, and Apple is believed to be the company behind the owner of Immersive Health Solutions LLC.

The filing also involved the use of large and small law firms in each country, again with Apple affiliations. Example: Simpson Grierson processed the “Reality” profile in New Zealand. This law firm was previously selected by Apple to help name the company “Apple Sales New Zealand”.

While Reality Processor may be the name of the chip used in Apple’s AR/VR device, it is more likely that Reality One and Reality Pro will be the names for the device or connected systems. Both One and Pro are suffixes that Apple has used in its products and services in the past.

Apple’s AR/VR device is said to be in development. They are expected to be premium device that is lightweight and comfortable to wear compared to competitors. This $3,000 device is said to be equipped with a pair of 4K OLED screens, 15 camera modules and is capable of supporting eye tracking and hand gestures. Speculations suggest that the device will launch in early 2023.
