After releasing iOS 16.4.1 to iPhone users last week, Apple has now rolled out an important security update for iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 running iOS 15.
According to BGR, the iOS 15.7.5 update helps to address two vulnerabilities that can be exploited by hackers. It is also available with iPadOS 15.7.5, macOS Big Sur 11.7.6, and macOS 12.6.5. Apple says this security update is for owners of the first-generation iPhone 6s, 7, and SE, and fixes vulnerabilities in IOSurfaceAccelerator and WebKit
The IOSurfaceAccelerator bug would essentially allow an app to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges, and Apple says the issue could have been exploited by hackers. Meanwhile, with WebKit, Apple says crooks can deliver malicious web content that leads to arbitrary code execution.
The company says this security update is available for iPhone 6s (all models), iPhone 7 (all models), iPhone SE (1st generation), iPad Air 2, iPad mini (4th generation), and iPod touch (7th generation). So if a user has any of these devices, it’s better to update to the latest version available.
It is known that although Apple stopped supporting these models with the iOS 16/iPadOS 16 update last year, the company still provides essential security fixes. According to recent rumors, iOS 17 will stop supporting iPhone 8 and X models, but it is likely that they will still receive important security patches like what Apple is doing with the iPhone 6s and 7 in order to ensure that users always use the device safely
