Apple releases iOS 13.6.1 update that fixes Covid-19 exposure notification bug

Apple has just released the iOS 13.6.1 update, which is a minor fix aimed at addressing an issue that could seriously affect Covid-19 exposure notification functionality.

According to SlashGear, launched a few months ago as a partnership between Apple and Google, the Exposure system offers official app developers several related tracking APIs that let you track contacts while maintaining privacy.

This will eliminate unnecessary location access, even when the app is running in the background. Sadly, it looks like it’s a bug in iOS 13.6 where it suddenly disables Exposure Notification without the user’s knowledge, reducing the usefulness of the system.

IOS 13.6.1 also fixes a weird heat management issue that causes some iPhone screens to turn green. It also fixes the problem where unnecessary system data files are not deleted automatically when the device runs out of memory.

Aside from iOS 13.6.1, Apple is also rolling out iPadOS 10.3.6 as well as macOS 10.15.6 updates. The company released a bug fix release aimed at addressing an issue that appears to be occurring with the App Sandbox framework that crashes virtualization software like VMWare and VirtualBox.

Currently, to update to iOS 13.6.1, users just need to go to Setting (settings)> General (general settings)> Software Update (software upgrade) and install it.
