Apple suddenly announced the new HomePod, priced at $ 299

After the new MacBook Pro and Mac mini, Apple introduced a second-generation HomePod to succeed the original version which was so expensive that the company had to stop production in March 2021.

According to Neowin, Apple says the second-generation HomePod is packed with the company’s many innovations and smart assistant Siri, advanced computational audio, and Spatial Audio support for a groundbreaking listening experience. Visually, it closely resembles the original model with a backlit touch surface and two color options (white and midnight). It is made of 100% recycled mesh fabric.

HomePod 2 delivers incredible sound quality with deep bass. Custom-designed high-def woofer, powerful 20mm motor, built-in bass-EQ mic, and an array of 5 beam-forming tweeters around the base. It all works together to achieve a powerful audio experience. The S7 chip is combined with system sensing software and technology to provide an even more advanced computing experience that maximizes the full potential of your audio system for a groundbreaking listening experience.

With room-sensing technology, the HomePod recognizes sound reflections from nearby surfaces to determine if it’s leaning against a wall or standing freely, then adjusts the sound in real-time. Precise directional control of the beamforming array of 5 tweeters provides a clear listening experience and rich instrumentation.

Like the first-generation HomePod and HomePod mini, users can pair two HomePod 2s to separate left and right channels, and create a wider and more immersive soundstage. Another new feature coming from the HomePod mini is Ultra Wideband technology that allows users to transfer whatever is being streamed to the HomePod.

The new HomePod also supports audio recognition, which can listen for smoke and carbon monoxide alerts. Once detected, the speaker sends a notification to the user’s iPhone. There are also built-in temperature and humidity sensors to measure indoor environments and create home automation systems.

The second-generation HomePod is available to order now for $299, $50 cheaper than the original version. Apple is expected to ship the device to users from February 3, 2023.
