Apple has recently rolled out iOS 18.0.1 for compatible iPhone models, which comes as a bit of a surprise considering the timing of previous updates. This update primarily focuses on fixing several issues that have arisen since the release of iOS 18, particularly problems affecting the iPhone 16 series. One significant issue that has been addressed is a touchscreen problem causing the device to frequently ignore taps and swipes.
Additionally, Apple has resolved an error that caused the camera on the iPhone 16 Pro to freeze when recording video in 4K macro mode. Another bug related to the Messages app crashing when a user responds to a custom watch face in a chat has also been fixed. Furthermore, iOS 18.0.1 aims to resolve a memory allocation issue impacting performance on some iPhone models.
While this update doesn’t introduce major new features (unlike the upcoming iOS 18.1, which will include the new Apple Intelligence), it is expected to enhance the overall user experience, especially for those encountering the aforementioned issues. Users should navigate to Settings > General > Software Update to download the update.
Speaking of iOS 18.1, this upcoming update is set to be released later this month. It will bring new features from the Apple Intelligence AI toolkit, such as enhanced photo editing, new Siri functionalities, message management, and recording summaries. However, only iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 series users will receive these AI features.
Apple also introduced two new features for Apple Intelligence – Image Playground and ChatGPT – along with new capabilities for Siri. The next major upgrade is anticipated to launch in March 2025, bringing significant improvements to Siri and marking the full implementation of Apple Intelligence.
