Apple temporarily halted development of Vision Pro 2

According to a report from The Information, Apple has reportedly decided to shift its focus away from developing the second generation of its Vision Pro glasses, known as Vision Pro 2. Instead, the company is said to be prioritizing the development of a more affordable MR (mixed reality) headset with the codename N109.

Apple, reportedly aiming to make the new glasses more affordable, intends to retain the high-resolution screen present in the current Vision Pro model but may remove certain original features, such as EyeSight technology, to reduce costs. The company also aims to make the new glasses approximately 1/3 lighter than the Vision Pro, addressing a common user complaint about the weight of the glasses.

The report states that Apple is targeting a price point for the low-cost Vision glasses at about $1,600, which is lower than the current Vision Pro but still higher than Meta Quest 3, which costs 649 USD for the most advanced version. The company is reportedly aiming to release these cheaper MR glasses by the end of 2025.

Earlier this month, Apple announced the expansion of Vision Pro sales to markets outside the US, with pre-orders available in various countries with scheduled release dates.
