Apple upgrades the power of Siri assistant

Apple is set to enhance its virtual assistant, Siri, with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) features over the next two years. According to a report from GSMArena, the upgrade will involve integrating ChatGPT and a proprietary large language model (LLM) being developed by Apple. This information was shared by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who indicated that Apple is undertaking a significant overhaul of Siri to bolster its capabilities and remain competitive against rivals like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google Gemini.

The initial phase of this upgrade is scheduled for December of this year when Siri will integrate the ChatGPT AI tool. This integration is a temporary measure that will make the iOS virtual assistant more intelligent while Apple works on its advanced LLM.

Apple is reportedly working on a new LLM that aims to provide improved natural language processing capabilities, surpassing the current functionalities of Siri. This new iteration of Siri is anticipated to be unveiled at the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) in June 2025, with an official launch planned for spring 2026 alongside the iOS 19.4 update.

Apple’s significant investment in AI underscores its commitment to enhancing the user experience with Siri. The virtual assistant has faced criticism for its limitations compared to other market competitors, and these developments suggest that users can expect a more advanced, smarter, and more interactive Siri shortly.
