Apple urges iPhone users to abandon Chrome and switch to Safari to ensure privacy.
According to TechRadar, Apple has just launched a new advertising campaign, emphasizing the superior privacy protection capabilities of the Safari browser compared to rival Google Chrome on the iOS platform.
In a Black Mirror-style promotional video, Apple warns users that their web browsing data is being tracked by ‘flying security cameras’ and ‘robot bats’, and affirms that Safari is a browser. ‘Truly private’ browsing.
Although it does not directly mention Chrome, Apple’s message is aimed at the world’s most popular browser. Apple criticized the Chrome browser for its use of default tracking cookies and incognito mode (Incognito) which is not effective in protecting user privacy.
According to Apple, Safari has more robust security features enabled by default than Chrome. For example, the Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP) feature helps prevent cross-site tracking and Private Browsing Mode is also considered safer than Chrome’s incognito mode.
However, Apple also admits that Safari is not a perfect solution to the privacy issue. The company recommends that users use a VPN to increase security when browsing the web.
Besides Safari, iOS users can also choose other privacy-focused browsers like Arc Search and Brave.
Apple’s advertising campaign is launched in the context of the iOS web browser market being volatile. With the European Union’s (EU) Digital Markets Act (DMA) coming into effect, third-party web browsers like Chrome may soon be allowed to use tools other than Apple’s WebKit, creating more fierce competition in the market.
