Apple will add some AI features to the next version of its iOS operating system, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
newsletter In the Power On, Gurman repeated what he previously stated about Apple being caught off guard by the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), led by major competitors like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI, according to Neowin
Mr. Gurman said Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federighi is leading a working group to add AI features to the iOS 18 operating system. Apple asked this group to equip iOS 18 with active AI features. on the company’s large language model (LLM). The new features will improve the way both Siri and Messages apps can ask questions and auto-complete answers.
Previously there were rumors that Apple was creating an LLM, called Apple GPT. The new report says more about those plans and how LLM could be used to improve virtual assistant Siri from 2024.
Additionally, Apple services head Eddy Cue is also working on adding AI features to apps. Cue’s team is examining how generative AI can be used to help people write in apps or automatically create presentation slides. This is similar to what Microsoft has applied AI to Word and PowerPoint
