Barriers prevent Apple from launching a folding-screen iPhone

Apple is reportedly testing various prototypes of folding-screen iPhones, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. However, technical issues, particularly related to the fold on the screen, have delayed the potential launch of this product. These issues include hinge strength and wrinkles when the device is folded. These challenges are consistent with previous reports and have caused delays in the production scale of folding-screen iPhones.

The visibility of folds on folding screen devices has improved, but in certain lighting conditions, users can still notice this design flaw. As Apple focuses on providing products with sophisticated aesthetic designs, folds could detract from the premium look that Apple aims for.

Furthermore, the folding-screen smartphone segment represents only a small part of the entire market, with Apple still dominating the high-end segment. Considering the emphasis on profits, the potential for a folding screen iPhone with a relatively high price and poor sales may not be attractive enough for Apple.

Apart from the folding screen iPhone, Apple is also rumored to be working on a MacBook model with a foldable 18.8-inch screen, expected to be released in late 2027 or 2028. This suggests that consumers may have to wait a significant amount of time before experiencing this new technology.
