Billionaire Elon Musk will increase the number of Twitter characters to 4,000

Twitter boss Elon Musk has just confirmed plans to significantly increase the number of characters that can appear in a tweet to many times the current 280.

According to SlashGear, in addition to rolling out the Twitter Blue subscription package on December 12 to give paid subscribers a blue verification badge as well as a few other perks not available for free accounts, Twitter is supposed to increase the character limit of tweets to a maximum of 4,000 instead of 280 as at present. This means users will be allowed to compose tweets with long content on Twitter.

Increasing the number of characters per tweet will put many Twitter users at ease, but could also open up a spike in lengthy comments on the platform and annoy many. Twitter is a microblogging platform that focuses on very short messages when compared to longer messages like on Facebook. Those short messages force users to cut nonsense from anything they want to share and focus instead on the core of the topic they’re writing about. That’s why threading tweets became a popular feature on the platform.

The limited length of tweets has been one of Twitter’s central and defining features since the service’s launch in 2006, making it a popular and influential platform around the world . . Tweets were initially limited to 140 characters, but doubled to 280 in 2017.

Reacting to the news of Musk’s plans, some users pledged to leave the platform if he made a character increase.

plan to increase the character limit It’s currently unclear whether Elon Musk applies to everyone or just Twitter Blue paid members for $8/month.
