Billionaire Warren Buffet likens AI to building an atomic bomb

American billionaire Warren Buffett compared the rise of AI technology to the creation of the atomic bomb at the annual meeting of Berkshire Hathaway.

Discussing the prospects of AI technology at Berkshire Hathaway’s recent shareholder meeting, Warren Buffett was impressed by what AI can do and skeptical about the ability of AI to replace humans.

According to Business Insider, the 92-year-old investor believes that once AI can do everything, humans cannot reverse the process of AI development or make it stop

Buffett compares AI to man’s invention of the atomic bomb during World War II, as many initially thought the atomic bomb was invented with “good intentions”, but did not foresee its dangers.

Investors say AI can bring a big step forward and change everything in the world, except the way humans think and behave. Buffett’s comments are based on a quote by scientist Albert Einstein when Einstein commented that the atomic bomb “changed everything but the way we think”

The American billionaire has long spoken out against nuclear weapons. He issued several warnings about the dangers of this weapon and wished to be able to spend all his money on reducing the possibility of atomic bomb attacks. In an April interview with CNBC, Buffett said the prospect of a pandemic or nuclear war is what keeps him up at night, not the success of Berkshire Hathaway.

Not long ago, AI expert Geoffrey Hinton resigned from Google. He warned that AI’s threat to the world could be more urgent than climate change.

Warren Buffett and Geoffrey Hinton are not the first to express concerns about AI. In March, groups of experts and company leaders in the field of AI signed an open letter calling for a halt to AI development, among them billionaire Elon Musk. The body of the letter proposes to create a system to distinguish between AI and human-produced content and points out the dangers surrounding this technology
