Black Myth developer: Wukong refuses to cooperate with third parties

The developer of Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science, reportedly declined an offer to collaborate with Sweet Baby Inc., a well-known gaming industry consulting firm. Sweet Baby Inc. had proposed a substantial fee of up to 7 million USD for consulting on matters related to “diversity and correctness” in the game. Game Science cited the high cost and its commitment to preserving its creative spirit as the reasons for rejecting the offer.

It’s worth noting that Sweet Baby Inc.’s influence is more prominent in the Western gaming industry and has had a limited impact on Asian titles. Given that Black Myth: Wukong draws inspiration from the renowned Chinese novel Journey to the West, the decision to decline cooperation with Sweet Baby Inc. was regarded as courageous and commendable.

Many observers speculate that Sweet Baby Inc. prioritizes surface-level factors such as “diversity” over product quality. Game Science’s refusal to collaborate is seen as a move to maintain the game’s artistic integrity and prevent unnecessary external influences.

Despite these developments, Black Myth: Wukong continues to garner significant attention within the gaming community. The game’s popularity is evident as it has surged to the top of wish lists and best-seller charts on Steam, solidifying its widespread appeal.
