Casio was attacked by ransomware, leaking a lot of customer data

Electronics giant Casio has officially confirmed a ransomware attack that occurred in early October, leading to a significant breach of personal information related to employees, partners, and customers.

According to reports from TechCrunch, the company initially announced a system disruption on October 7 but did not provide further details at that time. In its recent statement, Casio disclosed that the unauthorized access involved not only the data of employees and contractors but also information regarding business partners and job candidates.

While Casio acknowledged that some customer information was compromised, the company did not specify the exact types of data involved or the number of affected individuals. Importantly, Casio stated that credit card information was not at risk, as it is not stored within their systems.

A ransomware group known as Underground claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting that they had stolen over 200 GB of data from Casio, including legal documents and salary information.

As of now, it remains unclear if Casio has received a ransom demand. The company has declined to answer media inquiries, emphasizing that it is still investigating the extent of the damage caused by this breach.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing threats posed by ransomware attacks, highlighting the need for businesses to enhance their cybersecurity measures to prevent and mitigate potential attacks.
