On June 4, OpenAI experienced interruptions with its ChatGPT AI chatbot service, affecting users across websites and mobile applications for about 3 hours and 14 minutes. Many encountered issues with receiving responses from the service, even if the chat interface was visible. Additionally, attempts to query or search resulted in “internal server error” responses, impacting both free and paid users.
OpenAI acknowledged the problem as a “critical outage” and assured users of ongoing efforts to resolve it. While some users were unaffected, this event marks a recent series of outages, such as the previous month’s disruption linked to the Bing API. For uninterrupted service, affected users were advised to explore alternative AI chatbot options like Microsoft Copilot or Google Gemini.
