To offset the cost of providing 5G for the iPhone 12, Apple removed accessories it deemed “unnecessary.” However, that doesn’t mean the iPhone 12 will be cheaper.

According to SlashGear, the iPhone 12 will be the biggest leap in Apple innovation. The iPad Pro is expected to have a 120Hz “ProMotion” display and a LIDAR sensor. However, the product differentiator is 5G – a first for an Apple product.

The addition of 5G to all iPhone 12 models will undoubtedly raise the price of this smartphone. To lower the price, Apple claims to have decided to ship the iPhone 12 without a charger or with the EarPods attached, leaving only the Lightning cable and the phone itself. This information was noted down by leak expert Ming-Chi Kuo and is now confirmed by TrendForce.

Besides, TrendForce also offers the starting price that is expected to come to the iPhone 12 line and if exactly it can disappoint many people. Specifically, despite the removal of accessories, the standard iPhone 12 model starts from $ 699 to $ 749, while the highest iPhone 12 Pro Max starts from $ 1,149 to $ 1,199. For comparison’s sake, the starting price of the iPhone 11 is $ 699 and the iPhone 11 Pro Max is $ 1,099.

It’s not surprising that Apple’s iPhone prices are consistently high, but the fact that it happened in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic may partly affect the appeal. While the device can still sell well, user hesitation over those prices means that profits are hurt not only for Apple but also for their partners.
