CrystalDiskInfo
CrystalDiskInfo, free software offered by the publisher Hiyohiyo, is better known for its counterpart CrystalDiskMark, which allows you to test the performance of your disk. However, CrystalDiskInfo stands out by providing detailed information on the health of your internal or external drives, whether they are SSDs or traditional hard drives.
This software uses Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART), a technology built into most modern drives, to monitor and report various performance and health indicators of your drives. Among the information provided is the current disk temperature, number of read or write failures, disk operating time, and startup and shutdown frequency.
One of the main benefits of CrystalDiskInfo is its ability to alert you when your disk health approaches critical thresholds. This allows you to back up your data before it's too late. Indeed, when the condition of a drive deteriorates, the process is often rapid, and an increase in failure rates may indicate that it is time to schedule a replacement of the drive.
CrystalDiskInfo is easy to use with its simple interface that displays all the data it can recover from each disk in your system. It is important to note that not all disks implement the SMART protocol in the same way and not all disks track or report all possible values.
More Information on CrystalDiskinfo
CrystalDiskinfo is a completely free tool since it is donationware. You can therefore donate to its developer to support its development but it is also possible to download it for free without spending a penny.
The small utility is widely compatible with a version of all Windows systems from XP to 11. The same goes for architectures with an x86, x64, and ARM64 version. Finally, note that a portable version is available to diagnose disks without having to install the software. This portable version can be launched directly from a USB key.
